Maps you want to see on the servers

Creating an account on this forum is effort. Communicating your opinion is hard. Being understood and having things being done is chalenging.

Players want new maps, we know it. But but there is no way to directly ask each person what maps he would like to see playable on the server. Or is there?

Thats right: I made a poll where everyone can pick the maps he wants to see on the server, and even type the name of maps that I missed or that are new just by picking the "other" option and typing in the map's name.

The purpose of this thread is:
  1. To have a better knowledge of what the players want
  2. To have a place when people can also suggest more maps as the time passes, talk about how amazing they are and how cool it would be to have them in already. (or just complain that only brainless people know how to vote).
  3. To have a place where volunteers can say that they are motivated to work on some of the maps
I made a sheet to let map porters and testers leave notes about what porter plans to port what, the maps which need testing at the moment and the feedback testers have about them:

Keep in mind that this is to take as an information and that its not because a map is in first position that its the map that everyone has to focus on working on first. This is just a tool, you don't have to use it/rely on it.

I have no knowledge in bunnyhop maps however, which is why I would ask anyone who has a good knowledge on bhop maps to submit a poll like this for the bhop servers.

I strongly recommend you to share this poll with as many players as possible in order to give as many people as possible the chance to give their point of view. I advise the admins to create a chat message mentionning this poll along with a !poll command working the same way as the !surf command (and have the link written in text too for the people who have html disabled in-game). A link to this forum thread would be nice too.

Bhop maps I can do. Granted, I don't have a lot of time during the week with running a business and all, and cranking them out would take a bit longer than normal, but I can put them out.

INB4 somebody suggests 'badges'...unless somebody can come up with a decent ladder fix/workaround. I've already wrapped my brain around it and can't seem to come up with a decent solution.

By now, the business is booming and I'm able to give myself a 3 day weekend...which gives me a whole extra day to do whatever I want...i.e., port maps.

And yeah, I have no idea how I would make bhop_badges2 ladder jumps work myself other than just making the player skip that "broken" area.

Also, I did some testes and keep in mind that css players jump 54 units uncrouched compared to 50 units in tf2 (which is why in some maps you need to crouch to do a jump while you don't have to in css) and 65 with the best use of crouched versus 72 in tf2.

Also, the fact taht you are 16 units wider makes any kz part way easier, so it has to be taken in consideration when porting (I don't say that to you in particular Nastybutler, I just want to have this written somewhere accessible on the forums for people who want to try porting bhop maps to know).

Now that I've read through your poll....this is what I have as far as porting a few on that list: (This will be long.)


surf_awp_sk33t....no go...it's an air arena type combat map. Port it if you want to, but it's way too cheezy for my taste.
surf_borderlands...another combat map with a crap surf.
surf_leet_xl_beta...already ported it, Tordana turned it down.
surf_ny_moment_v3...needs a LOT of work; has a lot of noclip errors.
surf_81st_network...another cheezy combat map
surf_classics2...was removed because a TF2 update broke boosts; just need to remove a few strong boosts in a couple sections; there's no other reason I've found for it not to be on the servers.
surf_delusional...needs the random stage logics removed; other than that, it should be fine.
surf_horizon...was working on this, never finished it. Simple 'remove jail and recompile'. Shouldn't take more than an hour to port.
surf_kz_mix_journeys...one that I've been wanting to port for a LONG time, never got around to doing it. If you get this PROPERLY ported, you have my respect.
surf_lody_preview...gimmicky map that was removed a long time ago because of the gimmicks.
surf_mesa_mine and surf_mesa_aether....these are easy to port now Arblarg ported surf_mesa...just rip the textures from surf_mesa and mine & aether will port properly.
surf_portal_game4...needs a bit of proper resizing...should be easy to port.
surf_wavelength...one I started, never finished.
surf_arghmyeyes...good fucking luck trying not to go blind with this shit. Just needs proper resizing and should be fine.
surf_bbb...started it, never finished it.
surf_color_fix...had problems compiling it. If you can get it to work, more power to you.
surf_crystal...crazy ass map...but if you really want it, I won't stop you.
surf_ecosystem...started it, never finished it.
surf_fruits2...THIS motherfucker gave me hell for 2 solid months; I finally said 'fuck it' and gave up on it. The models won't port over properly. If you can manage...go for it. This map's been on the top of the list for a very long time.
surf_globalchaos...don't really see the need to have this one because it's just the last 3 stages of surf_tricky_chaos
surf_happyhands2...gave me compiling problems. Don't know why.
surf_iceworld...s1 of surf_classics. Cheezy map.
surf_kawaii...another one on my 'want to port' list...never got around to doing it. Awesome high t3; borderline t4.
surf_mushroom_ksf...decent staged t5. Should be portable.
surf_parc_colore...want to port this one as well, but the issue is with the timer triggers...since all the stages end on the same spot, they'll conflict. Need to find a timer workaround for this.
surf_s_t_a_t_i_o_n....has noclip errors that need to be fixed
surf_stagejuan_ksf...surf_1969 and surf_something_serious mashed into one map...don't see the need to port it.
surf_tronia...the sequel to surf_tronic. Definitely NOT a t3 by any means; needs major resizing.
surf_flappybird...needs resizing, especially with the pipes being models. Will have to convert them to func_props_dynamic
surf_ghostbusters...this map's a headache I wasn't about to bother with.
surf_halloween_fix (css t4 version)...needs MAJOR resizing. Way too tight, even on CSS. Why nobody plays it on CSS
surf_hyper...this map will give you a migraine...both porting and surfing it. Proceed with caution.
surf_illumination...started it, never finished it because the timer triggers on krazy's bonus conflicted (which is the only reason why people wanted this map to begin with)
surf_kalium...basically a shortened version of kalium2...don't see the need to port this. Still hard as fuck.
surf_loves_spliff...one I've been wanting to port for a long time, never got around to it.
surf_parrot_selector...honestly, I think this one should be redone completely, let the hard and easy modes be selectable in the map as it was on surfiT. Why panzer removed it during another re-port, I don't know. I would personally like the entire map as is, freshly ported.
surf_rands...needs a LOT of resizing, and was WAY too long to have to meticulously go through...I finally got bored and gave up on it due to lack of patience.
surf_sluice_final...would prefer this one to replace what we have on the servers, due to the addition of the bonuses.
surf_edge...is not portable to tf2 because the CSGO .bsp and TF2 .bsp's have different versions, and are incompatible. Plus that, the whole map is way too tight; even on CSGO. Awesome map yeah, but really shitty surf. Try this on CSGO first before you decide to try to port it.
surf_primero...started it, never finished it.
surf_timewarp...fuck tioga. Somebody else can deal with this clusterfuck of a map.
surf_looksmodern...the map is portable, yes, but will be almost a t7 because the cameras required to show you how to surf each stage will not work in tf2. Don't argue with me on this, don't try it...will give everybody the same answer. It. Doesn't. Work. ...unless you want to go through each stage, capturing screenshots of each ramp you have to surf then writing a VERY long .vmf to import a .gif file into hammer...be my guest. I don't have the weeks it takes to make them nor the patience to go with it.
surf_skill8_h...same as with parrot_selector, need to be re-ported. would prefer the map to have a selectable difficulty in game. Why I originally ported the easy version...I don't know. Just wanted to get a map done and on the servers.
surf_valpect...same as with surf_edge. Has way to many models and needs to be completely resized...and plus, the .bsp versions from CSGO and Tf2 are incompatible. Good fucking luck with this one.

And yeah, I have no idea how I would make bhop_badges2 ladder jumps work myself other than just making the player skip that "broken" area.

Also, I did some testes and keep in mind that css players jump 54 units uncrouched compared to 50 units in tf2 (which is why in some maps you need to crouch to do a jump while you don't have to in css) and 65 with the best use of crouched versus 72 in tf2.

Also, the fact taht you are 16 units wider makes any kz part way easier, so it has to be taken in consideration when porting (I don't say that to you in particular Nastybutler, I just want to have this written somewhere accessible on the forums for people who want to try porting bhop maps to know).

WHICH is the reason why I haven't ported any KZ maps..because each and every hop would have to be resized...and that's a more time on a map than I would like to spend porting it.

The goal of this thread again is to get as many people to share what maps they want to see on the server.

If everyone on the server wants surf_lodypreview in, then it means that we should satisfy that need accordingly because of the demand.

I will try my best to port the maps that are requested, even if that requires some effort.

Here the goal is, the opinions first, then the porting problems and technical difficulties: not the reverse!

arghmyeyes has a saveloc problem in css where you have to re-join every time you turn your surftimer back on because the screen goes black, dunno how this would affect tf2
i strongly suggest fruits2 ends on s15 like it "originally" does
iceworld is a different iceworld than the one in classics (which has a little stage you may have heard called akai_final)

@nastybutler, concerning ladders for badges I found an interesting system used in bhop_alvo which simulates going up a ladder pretty well by using a series of very steep slopes which act as stairs (see around 1m30s in https://youtu.be/Ja2JPZM84IQ). It doesn't work for going down ladders but it works fairly well for going up (much better than trigger_push that's for sure).

Re: looksmodern and timewarp, I looked at both of these and they are rather large projects, timewarp needs to have large portions of the map turned into models to even compile and looksmodern cameras, as nasty says, cannot work. I tried putting a gif into the map as a replacement but there's a size limit on the gifs so they would probably be really hard to follow anyway.

Re: valpect and edge, I'd prefer if these were not ported. They are not fun tbh. Too tight.

Also please no badges2 we don't need 40 minute maps

Would it be possible to port timewarp without resizing or decompiling. There were some weird bugs on s5 when I tried, but I wonder if those can be fixed with entspy.


Other than that, I think besides for the first few stages, surf_z is a really good map. kz_mix_journey is a really unique map, telstar is already on tf, just needs triggers blocking scs / jails + other stuff stripped, salient seems good, sempar is also really good, and yeah idk. The poll seems like its good for weeding out maps no one wants, but it seems like some decent maps are being missed because they aren't as well known.
