Trick Surf Contest Announcement

Post by Rez » Mon Jun 26, 2017 11:43 pm

Caat and I are going to be organizing a trick surfing contest.

Near the end of every month there will be a video on Caats youtube channel of all the tricks that get submitted, and in he description of that video there will be a poll so everyone can vote for their favorite trick. Then, 3 winners will be selected and will have their trick showcased on the ReSurfed Community channel, and they will also win prizes.

The first video will be released near the end July so everyone will have time to submit their trick.

If you want to be in the contest, you need to first do the trick. (for now, there are issues with demos on the EU servers so you will have to do your trick on an NA server)

Then you need to go to stv.resurfed.com and you need to download the demo of the trick and load it in tf2 (if you don’t know how demos work you can most likely find a tutorial online)

Then you need to find the tick of the beginning of the trick and then you need to make a reply to this forum post with a link to the demo, the tick that the trick starts at, and a link to your steam profile.

From there, your part is pretty much done. If you have any questions or anything you can make a reply to this forum post or you can contact me on steam:

If you aren’t familiar with trick surfing, this video should give you an idea of what it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-RTWVXNRy4

The trick video and other resurfed videos will be posted here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSukUS ... 1m_TPAmmNw

You can find Caats channel here:

edit: We have decided that we will allow each person to submit a maximum 2 tricks, and also you will only be allowed to do the tricks on a resurfed server.

Can we submit demos of tricks done locally? There's some cool tricks you could do that can't be done online due to triggers (exile and looksmodern are good examples of maps with this problem, but there's definitely more), but if you load the map locally you can remove all trigger_teleport and record those tricks.

Edit: letting tricks be run locally would also allow for different airaccel or tickrates, which could be seen as unfair but would also allow wider variety of possible tricks - most tricksurf servers run at 100tick anyway.

Hey Ziddia.

Whilst I do agree that a lot of fun and interesting things can be done with edited air accel etc. A lot of the incentive for these events, is to get older and newer players playing on the servers more. However, whilst I am the manager of the events, I do want the guys I have running these events to have the freedom to create something great between themselves. So if Rez and Caat feel as though they think that'd be beneficial to the event then I'll allow it. :)

It was mentioned that someone wanted to incorporate sticky jumping with surf maps offline, so some interesting things can definitely happen.

I talked to caat and we decided were actually going to require that the trick is done on a resurfed server, sorry :( but we are allowing each person to submit 2 tricks now instead of 1

Link to download: http://stv.resurfed.com/US/advanced/aut ... is_njv.dem
Tick 65850
Ends around 67500

Not entirely happy with how it turned out, in particular a bhop I used is really poorly done cos of 400ish ping. Demo might be laggy too cos of ping but I'm not certain it would have had an effect.

Hey!

http://stv.resurfed.com/US/advanced/aut ... xyartz.dem at tick 194450.

The trick was made starting from a resumed saved location before a ramp that gives you maxvelocity.

I might edit this post later if I come up with an other trick and if it is not too late to submit.

Edit: well, link is gone so I guess I'll upload the one I downloaded from it: https://www.sendspace.com/file/m2pvog
